For the past twenty years, EcoPeace – Middle East has brought together neighbors from Israel, Palestine, and Jordan to cooperatively protect their shared water resources: the Dead Sea and the Jordan River. Former foes work together through common interests to foster peace and trust and effect lasting change.
The river is “no longer clean, and is now as small as a canal,” said Suad Sami. The Dead Sea’s “water [is] receding from the shoreline,” adds Jowan Al-Hilo. Both are Water Stewards who participated in the Accompagnateur Workshop. The camera provides these Palestinian activists with a medium—photography—to document the need for climate stewardship. A selection of their images was exhibited in Jericho, West Bank, in October 2020, informing and engaging the public on climate change.
